Upcoming Events/Training for Childminders
National Childminding Week 2026 will be held from the 19th to 23rd October, to celebrate the important role Childminders play in the lives of children, families and communities right across Ireland.
For so many families, they are a trusted partner, offering a welcoming home from home environment where children can learn through play, build confidence and develop meaningful relationships.
National Childminding Week aims to raise awareness of childminding, recognise your professionalism and commitment, and encourage greater understanding of the unique benefits that childminding offers.
Throughout the week, a range of local events and activities will take place nationwide. These events will provide opportunities for childminders to connect with one another, share experiences, learn about available supports and celebrate the positive impact they have on the lives of the families they support.
Here in Carlow we are holding:
An Online Fire Safety Training for Childminders on Tuesday, 20th October from 7pm-9.30pm. If you are a Childminder or in the process of becoming a Childminder and would like to attend, please contact me on 059 9140244 or email me at eilish@carlowccc.ie.
Carlow CCC will also hold an Information Stand at Fairgreen Shopping Centre on Wednesday, 21st October from 9am-1pm, where we will be present to answer any childminding queries you may have.
We also have Paediatric First Aid Training for Childminders taking place shortly after National Childminding Week. Training will take place on 10th and 17th November at Enterprise House, Carlow, from 7-9pm. If you are a Childminder or are in the process of becoming a Childminder, please contact me on the details above if you would like to book a place.
Childminding Pre-Registration Training

The aim of the training programme is to help you:
• Decide if you would like to become a Childminder and care for children in your own home.
• Understand the new childminding regulations. There is currently a 3 year transition period to September 2027, after which registration will move from being voluntary to mandatory.
• Apply the regulations to your childminding practice.
• Understand the Tusla registration process for childminders.
• Understand the documentation required to register with Tusla.
• Access supports and resources.
It will also provide an opportunity to meet with other childminders both new and existing which will offer you great peer to peer support.
Once you have completed the training you will be issued with a certificate of attendance. Please see Flyer for further details.
